After previously being refused classification here in Australia back in March, seemingly due to an automated result being generated by the site’s self reporting tool. It appears that the upcoming Silent Hill f has now managed to pass the requirements of the classification board and looks to have earned an MA15+ rating.
Looking further at the rating details, we can see that the game has been classified MA15+ for having strong impact themes and violence, moderate impact drug use, as well as mild impact language and nudity.
Where things get a bit more interesting is in the finer details listed on the page’s Industry Details section. It appears that the version that has been classified for release may have been modified in some way to earn a rating. Details of what the modifications are or how significant they’ll be aren’t specified. It’s likely that unless Konami detail the specifics, it may not be until release that we learn of any/all changes that may have occurred to get the game classified when players compare the footage of the international version when Let’s Plays inevitably turn up on YouTube.
Regardless, it’s great to see that the game will in fact be coming out locally in Australia, as even if it does turn out to be a modified release, it’s is still better than no release at all.
The game is now back up for pre-order at all the major retailers and is assumed to be releasing some time this year, though as of the time of writing, no specific release date has been revealed.
Given that the game has been in development for quite some time, and it’s now officially been rated, hopefully we don’t have to wait much longer to get freaked out again in this twisted, new take on the Silent Hill formula.
