Yesterday during the Disney D23 2026 Entertainment Showcase Square Enix showed off a 90 second trailer, showcasing the reveal of the world of Coco being in Kingdom Hearts 4 and showing off a new look at some gameplay segments.
Today during the DEEP DIVE Into KINGDOM HEARTS panel at D23, it was revealed that what was shown yesterday was a cut down version of the full new trailer. The new trailer comes in at just under 4 minutes in length and contains a heap of new reveals and confirms some long speculated characters.
The trailer begins in the world of Disney’s 2017 film Coco with a heart to heart scene between Miguel and Hector before skipping to a festival where Miguel is conducting a musical performance. It’s here we see some Heartless invade and Sora pops up to save the day. Showing off a fitting redesign and facepaint. Confirming the return of world specific designs for Sora as he travels world to world in Kingdom Hearts 4.
We then see Sora in Quadratum talking about ‘Dandelion Dispatch’, before we see sky ships zoom in, and the spawning of a giant Kaiju-like Heartless. It’s here we get confirmation that the masked, dark haried guy from the last trailer is in-fact Vali from Union Cross with Sora screaming “Vali, behind you!”.
It then jumps back to Coco’s world, the lighting and visuals look absolutelty incredible. Sora gains a new Keyblade, shaped like a guitar and fitted out with skulls and flowers, before we see him using it to surf around in what appears to be a new mini game combined boss encounter.
Trailer cuts to Mickey in a library where he’s pondering ideas on how to rescure Sora, before we get the reveal that Mickey is indeed a playable character in Kingdom Hearts 4. Further details provided at the panel revealed that Mickey’s segments will take place inside of the book we see in the trailer and have him appear in various ‘paper-like’ forms where his physical form will be used to solve puzzles, use specific abilities and access certain areas.
The trailer then cuts to Goofy and Donald who have adventured to the underworld and are talking with Hades. Before we get another big surprise, showing that Donald and Goofy will also be playable, having combat and traversal segments where you’ll be able to switch between the two. They too get pulled into Coco’s world and we get a brief glimpse of their redesigns too. It seems like Mickey, their journey is going to be focussed on tracking down Sora
We then gets to see more of Quadratum, an area based on real world Tokyo, where we see a brief interaction between Luxu and a young Xehanort. Raising more questions than it answers. Before another big reveal showing off Sora and Strelitzia engaged in combat with Heartless and an Army looking strike force, and the confirmation that the purple cloaked man from the last trailer is in fact Sigurd. With Sora calling out to him as he squares up to take on the Heartless.
Leaving us with the biggest reveal of the trailer, having Riku jump in right at the end to seemingly save the day. Confirming his return and that he’ll be making the journey to Quadratum too at some point.
The trailer ends with a release window of ‘Late 2027′ and both Tai Yasue and Tetsuya Nomura confirmed during the DEEP DIVE panel that this is locked in. They weren’t only ’80 or 90% sure’ they are ‘100% certain’ that Kingdom Hearts 4 will be coming in 2027.
After a history of many delays with the Kingdom Hearts series, it was great to see them acknowledge this and confirm they’re so confident with that release window. It’s sounding like the game is in a great place and probably largely ready, though with Final Fantasy 7 Revelations launching next Spring, it’s smart to give it some room in the spotlight and save Kingdom Hearts for the later part of the year.

Kingdom Hearts IV will be released in late 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Switch 2.
