After yesterday’s Zelda 40th Anniversary presentation, Nintendo was back with another Direct, this time bringing us a much more traditional showcase packed with new game reveals, release dates, updates and plenty of third-party announcements.
Coming in at around 45 minutes, this latest Nintendo Direct was primarily focused on games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 over the coming months, although Nintendo still had plenty of surprises for original Switch owners too.
And there was a lot to get through.
We got our first proper look at a brand-new 2D Metroid game, a completely new 3D Kirby adventure, release dates for games such as Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, a number of major third-party ports and even confirmation that Persona 6 is coming to Switch 2.
Check out all the announcements from the September 2026 Nintendo Direct below, along with the details revealed for each major game.
Monster Hunter Wilds
The Direct opened with a big one, as Capcom confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds is finally coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
The acclaimed action RPG will launch on Switch 2 on December 4, bringing its huge open-world hunting experience to Nintendo’s new hardware. Nintendo also confirmed that the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion will be coming to Switch 2 in 2027.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion shadow dropped onto Nintendo Switch 2 during the Direct.
The remastered PSP classic tells the story of Zack Fair and acts as a prequel to Final Fantasy VII, following Zack during his time as a SOLDIER and filling in some of the backstory surrounding Cloud, Sephiroth and the events of the original game.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is getting the Definitive Edition treatment on Nintendo Switch 2.
The new version includes the previously released Expansion Pass content alongside enhanced visuals and performance, more enemies on screen and a new Calamity Mode difficulty.
Save data can also be transferred from the original Nintendo Switch version.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition launches on February 25, 2027.
Meccha Chameleon
The multiplayer hide-and-seek game Mecca Chameleon was revealed for Switch 2 and is available now.
The game sees players disguising themselves as objects in the environment while trying to avoid being discovered by their opponents. It joins the Switch 2 lineup as a smaller multiplayer release alongside the Direct’s much bigger announcements.
Pokémon Pokopia – Expansion Pass Part 2
Pokémon Pokopia is getting more content later this year with Part 2 of its Expansion Pass.
The new content will add additional accessories and customization options, giving players even more ways to expand their Pokémon-filled world.
Star Fox Gets A Free Update
Nintendo also had an update for Star Fox, which launched on Switch 2 earlier this year.
A free update coming September 29 will add local split-screen multiplayer to Battle Mode, alongside three new stages: Kantina, Sector X and Venom.
The update will also allow four-player online multiplayer from a single Switch 2 console.
Star Fox Adventures Comes To Nintendo Classics
A nice surprise for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers followed, with Star Fox Adventures now available through the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics library.
Originally released for the GameCube in 2002, Star Fox Adventures takes Fox McCloud out of his Arwing and into a more traditional action-adventure experience.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II – Royal Edition
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is also making its way to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027.
The Royal Edition will include the base game alongside its story expansions, exclusive gear and a bonus questline.
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam
After years of waiting, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam finally has a release date.
The latest entry in the long-running puzzle adventure series launches on December 10 for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
This new adventure sees Professor Layton and Luke travelling to the American town of Steam Bison, where they become caught up in a series of mysterious incidents. The game will mark the return of the mainline Professor Layton series after more than a decade.
Yo-Kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain
Level-5 also surprised fans with Yo-Kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain, an enhanced remake of the classic Yo-Kai Watch 2 games.
The Switch 2 version will combine elements of Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits, Fleshy Souls and Psychic Specters, while also adding new story content and other features.
There is currently no release date, but the game is confirmed for Switch 2.
Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy
Pikmin 4 is finally getting its Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on November 12.
The upgraded version adds new voice commands for Oatchi using the Switch 2’s microphone, as well as an entirely new challenge mode called Dandori Academy.
Dandori Academy focuses on timed challenges and gives players three difficulty levels across a sizeable collection of stages, offering another reason for existing players to return to Pikmin 4.
Onyx: The Dark Grip
Bloober Team revealed Onyx: The Dark Grip, a new 2.5D horror game coming exclusively to Switch 2 in 2027.
Players take control of a mysterious entity that guides a lone traveller through a dangerous ghost town filled with supernatural threats.
One particularly interesting detail is that the game is designed specifically for handheld play and can only be played in handheld mode.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is getting an upgraded Switch 2 Edition with some new content.
The biggest addition is Heroes’ Vault, a new mode where players battle waves of enemies to grow stronger and recruit allies. The game will also introduce a new Hero named Shimmer, who possesses the ability to see the future.
Stage Fright
The creators of Overcooked revealed their next game, Stage Fright.
Coming to both Switch and Switch 2 in 2027, Stage Fright is a two-player cooperative adventure built around solving escape-room-style puzzles.
Players will need to work together locally or online while uncovering the mystery at the heart of the game.
Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Keepsake Sea
Disney Dreamlight Valley is getting another major expansion with The Keepsake Sea.
The new expansion introduces a Little Mermaid-themed storyline alongside characters including Milo Thatch from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Megara from Hercules and Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean.
The expansion is coming to Switch and Switch 2 in November.
Ondeh Ondeh: Kaya’s Tasty Tale
Ondeh Ondeh: Kaya’s Tasty Tale is a new 3D platformer coming to Switch 2 in 2027.
The game combines traditional platforming with music-based puzzles and looks to offer a colourful adventure with a distinctly Southeast Asian-inspired visual identity.
Kirby Air Riders
Nintendo also showed off some new Kirby Air Riders content.
New Sword Kirby & Dragoon and Noir Dedede & Hydra amiibo will be released on November 12, while a new in-game event is also on the way, giving players another way to earn rewards.
Cairn
The climbing adventure Cairn is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in early 2027.
The Direct also confirmed that a free demo is available now, giving players the chance to try out the game’s challenging climbing mechanics before its full release.
Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4
Capcom is bringing three Resident Evil remakes to Nintendo Switch 2.
Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition will all launch digitally on October 16.
The three games give Switch 2 owners the chance to play some of the biggest modern Resident Evil releases on Nintendo’s latest hardware.
Metroid: Ravenous
And then came one of the biggest surprises of the entire presentation.
Nintendo revealed Metroid: Ravenous, a brand-new 2D entry in the Metroid series coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2.
The footage shown during the Direct suggests that Ravenous is following in the footsteps of Metroid Dread, with side-scrolling exploration, intense combat and a much darker tone. Samus once again finds herself exploring a dangerous alien environment, although Nintendo is keeping many of the story details under wraps for now.
Metroid: Ravenous launches on January 28, 2027.
Nintendo is also preparing a Special Edition of the game alongside new amiibo.
Mario Kart World Gets A Free Update
Mario Kart World received a substantial free update during the Direct.
The update adds ten classic courses from the original Super Mario Kart, including Choco Island, Vanilla Lake and Ghost Valley.
Two new Knockout Tour routes, Propeller and Turnip Rally, are also being added.
Best of all, the update is available now.
Mega Man: Dual Override
Capcom also showed off more of Mega Man: Dual Override, including our first gameplay footage of Proto Man.
Both Mega Man and Proto Man will receive amiibo at launch, with the new game continuing Capcom’s push to bring the classic character back into the spotlight.
Eternal Anima
Marvelous revealed Eternal Anima, a new RPG coming to Switch 2 on March 4.
The game is built around time travel, with players travelling between different eras as they uncover the game’s story and battle their way through its world.
Danganronpa 2×2
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is getting a new version titled Danganronpa 2×2.
The game launches on January 14 for Switch and Switch 2 and reworks the 2012 murder mystery adventure for modern audiences.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is coming to Switch 2 on October 22.
The Switch 2 Starter Edition includes all previously released DLC fighters, as well as Mikey and Draken from Tokyo Revengers as guest characters.
A physical release is planned for January.
Metal Slug Ultimate Collection
SNK is bringing the Metal Slug series together in one huge collection.
Metal Slug Ultimate Collection includes ten games: Metal Slug 1 through 7, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug Advance and the previously unreleased location-test version of Metal Slug.
The collection will also feature online co-op, a gallery and an expanded Combat School mode.
It launches on Switch and Switch 2 in 2027.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX
Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX launches on February 16 for Switch and Switch 2.
The game is an enhanced version of Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force 3, featuring updated visuals and previously unreleased content for players in the Americas.
Physical copies will also include three Yu-Gi-Oh! trading cards.
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United
Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United is a full 3D remake of the 1995 RPG.
The new version features modern visuals, voice acting, newly arranged music and other upgrades while retaining the original game’s RPG foundations.
It launches on February 16 for Switch and Switch 2.

Nintendo then rattled through a large number of additional third-party games coming to Switch 2.

That’s quite the list, and it further underlined just how much third-party support Nintendo is getting behind the Switch 2.
Persona 4 Revival
Persona 4 Revival made another appearance, with Nintendo confirming that the remake will be coming to Switch 2.
The game is a modern remake of Persona 4 and will launch on Switch 2 on May 20, 2027. Other platforms will receive the game earlier, on February 18.
Persona 6
And then Nintendo dropped another major surprise.
Persona 6 has officially been confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2.
The highly anticipated next mainline Persona game had previously been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 owners will also be able to play it.
No release date was announced.
Kirby and the World Beyond
Nintendo saved one of its biggest new reveals for the end.
Kirby and the World Beyond is a brand-new 3D adventure coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch 2 in spring 2027.
The game appears to be taking Kirby into a much larger world than we’ve seen before, with open-world exploration and a huge focus on Kirby’s Copy Ability.
The footage showed Kirby travelling through expansive environments, interacting with the world and using copied abilities in different ways to explore his surroundings.
The game will also arrive in time for Kirby’s 35th anniversary in 2027.
And That’s A Wrap
That brings us to the end of another packed Nintendo Direct.
Following yesterday’s dedicated Zelda 40th Anniversary showcase, Nintendo has managed to make this a surprisingly busy week for Switch 2 announcements.
There was a little bit of everything here, from major first-party reveals like Metroid: Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond to long-awaited releases such as Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. Throw in Monster Hunter Wilds, the Resident Evil remakes, Persona 6, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II and a huge collection of smaller third-party releases, and there’s plenty for Switch 2 owners to look forward to.
The big takeaway is that Nintendo’s second year of Switch 2 support is starting to look considerably stronger. Metroid: Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond give Nintendo two major exclusives for 2027, while the rest of the lineup is filling out with a steady stream of ports, remasters and third-party games.
And with games such as Persona 6, Monster Hunter Wilds and Kingdom Come: Deliverance II now confirmed for the system, Nintendo clearly isn’t slowing down when it comes to bringing major third-party releases to Switch 2.
It’s going to be a busy few months.
