Earlier today, Nintendo delivered a new Nintendo Direct. Despite hosting both a Partner Showcase and Indie World Showcase Direct in July, this was the one a lot of people were waiting for, knowing that it would come with a look at the future for many of Nintendo’s biggest franchises, be over 60 minutes long and give us updates on games we already knew were coming. And it certainly delivered on that.
The presentation kicked off with a segment honoring Mario’s 40th anniversary, hosted by Shigeru Miyamoto himself. It came with a bunch of new announcements for media featuring everyone’s favourite plumber.
Miyamoto discussed some new features coming to Tokyo’s Nintendo Museum and Super Nintendo Worlds before revealing…
The new film is currently set to launch April 3rd next year.
Then the Mario announcements just kept coming.
Both games will feature improved UI, the option to play with button and stick or motion controls, new Storybook content and enhanced resolution. The Switch 2 version will also have support for 4K resolution. The game will be available on October 2nd this year and will be available as a combined pack when purchased physically or can be purchased individually if buying digitally on the eShop.
Alongside the announcement, it was also revealed that Mario and Rosaline Amiibo figures will be coming next April as well as a physical illustrated hardcover version of Rosalina’s Storybook from the game.
A new Mario Tennis title featuring 38 playable characters is on the way. There are multiple modes to enjoy including Tournament, Trial Towers, Mix It Up mode and Adventure mode, where Mario and friends are transformed into babies and must defeat monsters to return to normal.
Mario Tennis Fever launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on 12th February, 2026.
The new version of Super Mario Wonder is set to launch in Autumn next year for the Nintendo Switch 2 and has expanded content where you can enjoy a variety of attractions in the Bellabel Park plaza that lets you team up with friends and family.
And Nintendo are also releasing physical toys of the Talking Flowers from Super Mario Wonder. Also coming next Autumn.
The trailer reveals a gorgeous looking platformer that seems to be set in a storybook world. The official Nintendo description states: One day, on the island where Yoshi and his friends live, a peculiar talking book named Mr. E suddenly falls from the sky. This mysterious book’s pages contain information about unusual creatures, so Yoshi decides to jump in and help investigate. Join Yoshi for a new adventure when Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches on Nintendo Switch 2 in autumn 2026.
That wrapped up the Mario focused portion of the Direct. The show then moved on to some announcements for the Nintendo Switch 1 console.
With a Demo available today
The show then shifted to Nintendo Switch 2 updates and reveals. Starting with.
A physical release will also be coming December 12th
This one was a great surprise. And we don’t have to wait long to get to dive in. Deaturing 120fps when playing on the Switched 2 in Docked mode. The game will be launching on Switch and Switch 2 September 25th. Physical versions of the game will be available 20th November.
The game is set to launch November 20th and a second Air Riders Direct is coming soon. And the trailer gives me the impression that more Amiibo will be coming in future too.
Game Launching November 6th.
Possibly my favourite surprise of the show. The game features a new art style that blends diorama visuals with Akira Toriyama’s iconic character designs, as well as a streamlined main story, Moonlighting system that allows two vocations to be equipped at once. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch 5th February, 2026.
Selected games from Nintendo’s stereoscopic 3D console, Virtual Boy, are coming to Nintendo Classics exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members. To play, you’ll need Joy-Con or Joy-Con 2 controllers and the dedicated accessory. Dive into titles like Mario’s Tennis, Galactic Pinball, Teleroboxerand more as they release over time. Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics comes to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack 17th February, 2026. The accessory needed to play Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics, as well as a cardboard version, will be available to pre-order on My Nintendo Store today.
Looks to be a great title for horror fans. Twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura find themselves lost in a village that has vanished from the map in this revival of the Japanese horror adventure. Featuring chilling effects and atmosphere, players will control Mio, the younger twin sister, who can feel the presence of spirits. Pacify ghosts with the Camera Obscura and explore abandoned buildings shrouded in darkness, with remade exploration and combat elements. FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE launches on Nintendo Switch 2 in early 2026.
Then we got a rapid montage revealing upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 editions of:
Then we got another big one. A game I’m personally very excited for.
The new trailer showcased Samus’ new bike Vi-O-La and some large-scale open environments you’ll be able to ride through. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches on Nintendo Switch 2 4th December, with the Nintendo Switch version also launching the same day.
Plus, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Amiibo figures are also on the way. A standalone Samus as well as a Samus & Vi-O-La will be available 6th November, and Sylux will launch the same day as the game on 4th December.
Donkey Kong Bananza is getting more content. And it launches later today.
There’s a quirky new Pokemon game on the way where you Play as a Ditto transformed into a human and shape an empty land into a beautiful home for Pokémon. The game is releasing on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026
Pokemon Legends Z-A Gets a New Trailer
Hoping this one will be as great as Legends: Arceus. The release is just around the corner. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be released for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on Oct 16, 2025.
Not much was revealed but it’s called Mega Dimension and seems to feature multiple Raichu variants, themed around X and Y.
A Big surprise that I didn’t see coming
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is making a comeback. This game features a brand-new scenario with completely different victims and culprits, and the freshly revamped original scenario from Danganronpa 2. Danganronpa 2×2 launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2026.
Coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on 22nd January, 2026.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on 13th March, 2026.
It had been previously rumoured, but it’s great to see confirmed. And it’s launching day 1 on Switch 2 alongside it’s other platforms. Resident Evil Requiem launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on 27th February.
But it’s not the only Resident Evil announcement that was made. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil 8 are coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on the same date that Requiem launches.
Then the show ended with a bang! Revealing
A brand new title in the Fire Emblem series. Coming in 2026. The debut trailer provided a glimpse of the intertwining story, characters and turn-based tactical RPG gameplay. Keen to see a lot more of this one as we get closer to release.
That was certainly a packed show, full of some great reveals. You can check out the Direct in full below.
